Colorado Corn to host panel to connect farmers to legislators at IRF Farm Show

July 27, 2012 - 3:44pm

Decisions made in Denver and Washington DC have an impact on all aspects of agriculture. Many farmers may believe they are helpless in doing anything about those decisions.

Colorado Corn is hosting a panel discussion to show farmers that not only are ag policy decisions important to them, but that they can have an impact locally, statewide and nationally. “From the Dome to the Farm” is a panel discussion with legislators, staffers and lobbyists. The event is 1 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Irrigation Research Foundation in Yuma, part of the 2012 IRF Farm Show.

“We have seen what happens when farmers speak up,” said Mark Sponsler, executive director of Colorado Corn. “We get the attention of legislators, regulators and others. Our voices are heard. But there are more effective ways to go through the process and that’s where we want to help.”

The panel will include: Ronnie Carleton, Colorado deputy commissioner of Agriculture; Pam Shaddock from Sen. Mark Udall’s office; Alan Foutz from Rep. Cory Gardner’s office; Becky Brooks, lobbyist for Colorado Corn; as well as other legislative staff and fellow farmers who have testified at state and national meetings in defense and support of agriculture.

Following the panel discussion, at 2:30 p.m., Colorado Corn will also host a 30-minute Safety Seminar. Colorado Corn will also have a booth at the Farm Show.
